Turkish Cargo continues growth impetus

Turkish Cargo managed to maintain its growth pattern through to the end of 2019, countering international air cargo uplift trends for the year.

WACD cumulative data figures to December indicated a tonnage increase of 7.1% with some regions scoring higher – North and South America hit 17.1% growth.

Silk Way West committed to China

Despite Covid-19 having such a major impact on the air cargo sector, Azerbaijan-based operator Silk Way West Airlines has decided to maintain its China schedule throughout what it describes as ‘challenging and turbulent times’.

With more than 20 flights weekly connecting China ports with its global hub in Baku, Silk Way is performing its operations through a mix of charter and scheduled flights.

Arts festival points to air freight problems

Air freight issues have been cited as the prime reason for cancelling a key event at the upcoming 2020 Auckland Arts Festival, the outdoor aerial spectacle Place des Anges. It was set to be performed at Auckland Domain from March 13-15.

Long-serving festival chief executive David Inns said the move had been triggered by major freight problems related to the coronavirus outbreak and the subsequent cancellation of air cargo flights worldwide.
