US carriers to stick with ICAO emissions plan

US airlines will continue to comply with emissions limitation plans including the one brokered by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) that seeks to curb greenhouse gases from international flights.

The news comes as US president Donald Trump says the United States will withdraw from the landmark 2015 Paris pact to fight climate change.

The emissions decision means the carriers will avoid having to comply with regional emissions rules including the EU emissions trading system (EU ETS tax), a cornerstone of the EU's policy to combat climate change and its key tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
