Tradegate to study movement of containers in the supply chain

TRADEGATE has launched its container visibility project — Smartcontainers.

The project is aimed at providing an enhanced visibility to the movement of containers in the supply chain — from gate out at the Container Terminal Operator (CTO) on the import side to gate in at the CTO on the export side.
Its key objectives are:

• Increase container velocity and turnaround times.

• Decrease demurrage/detention costs through greater visibility and early warning of free time expiry.

• Decrease futile trips for transport operators, reducing pollution, traffic congestion and improving supply chain efficiency.

Tradegate has appointed Brett Maginness to project manage Smartcontainers. “He will be seeking input from various industry participants over the next few weeks to determine exactly what the industry requires,” said Peter Blanchard, Tradegate’s chief executive officer. “An important element of the project will be to ensure that commercially sensitive information is not released.

“This process is in keeping with Tradegate’s modus operandi to provide what industry needs rather than to impose a solution from an external party. We expect to move quickly when we have received Brett’s report.”
