Wednesday, 25 November 2009
China’s China Eastern Airlines says it will complete its merger with Shanghai Airlines within weeks, is looking for a strategic investor and also wants to join an airline alliance.

All the legal procedures will be completed by the end of 2009 for the merger with Shanghai Airlines, China Eastern general manager Ma Xulun told the nation’s China Daily.

The airline's chairman Liu Shaoyong added that it will soon decide which international airline alliance to join. Air China and Shanghai Airlines are members of Star Alliance, while China Southern Airlines is a member of SkyTeam. Oneworld has Cathay Pacific Airways in Hong Kong.
