Irish airline Aer Lingus says plans to save an annual EUR97 million have been accepted by unions representing pilots, middle management, maintenance staff and some ground staff and cabin crew - except those represented by union 'Impact'.
As a result, the carrier will sack 230 Impact members and make the remainder of its required 670 redundancies on a voluntary basis.
Because it reached an agreement with four out of five employee groups, the airline will not implement a harsher plan to fire 1,000 employees.
The carrier also revealed it turned in an operating loss in 2009 - before exceptionals - of EUR81 million compared with a loss of EUR20 million in 2008.
Revenue fell 11 per cent to EUR1.21 billion.
