New events expo for Sydney

SYDNEY has unveiled details of its new national events exhibition, the Australian Events Expo to be held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, May 16-17, 2007.

Key features include an extensive hosted buyer program, an education and seminar program, a range of themed feature sites to add energy to the show floor, and a VIP preview event for top event planners.

Operated by the Sydney Convention and Visitors Bureau (SCVB) in conjunction with ETF, the Australian Events Expo, replaces 'Sydney on Sale' and will be the first national events exhibition staged in Sydney.

SCVB managing director Jon Hutchison said the new event would be the industry’s most important exhibition on the national calendar.

“Going national means new products, services, destinations and bureaux from around the country, which in turn will attract new visitors, both from Sydney and interstate,” said Hutchison.  “We’ll match the new content with new features both on the show floor and surrounding the event, creating excitement for visitors and increasing opportunities to interact with exhibitors.”

Hutchison said the exhibition’s hosted buyer program would involve 50 qualified buyers from around Australia and Asia, including buyers from China and Hong Kong for the first time.  There would be a pre-scheduled appointment program for the buyers and a VIP event to preview the show.  Expressions of interest from buyers are now welcome.
