Russia's MICE business to post 170 per cent gain?

RUSSIA’s MICE industry is set to increase by a staggering 170 per cent this year.

And, according to survey results of the first MICE statistics for Russia, the largest sector of the industry is conferences, with more than 29 per cent.

The survey — conducted during and after last year’s Moscow International MICE forum — revealed other interesting statistics regarding the development of the country’s MICE industry. These included:

• The busiest time for Russian MICE is October-April, with 68 per cent of events taking place.
• The busiest single month is February, with more than 18 per cent of the total events being held.
• Incentive tours account for 16 per cent and seminars abroad for 11 per cent.
• Forty-four countries were named as destinations for MICE travel from Russia.
• Turkey has the largest sector, with 8.85 per cent followed by France (8.41 per cent) and Germany (6.9 per cent).
• Other leading countries were Italy, UK, Spain, Austria, Egypt, UAE and China.
• Thirty-nine per cent of all MICE groups have 21-100 participants.

The results of the first MICE statistics for Russia showed the Russian market was expanding fast and specialisation would enable the market to grow.

The survey also indicated a growing interest among Russian companies, which now value the importance of motivating staff through incentives and spectacular product launches, in addition to the “great advantages” of arranging meetings overseas and attending international conferences.
