Air France Group hit by cargo figures

Air France-KLM’s cargo division has posted an operating loss of EUR66 million for Q2, down from EUR78 million a year earlier, taking its first-half loss to EUR116 million.


Q2 revenue fell by about 16 per cent to EUR507 million as cargo volume shrank by 4.6 per cent to 282,000 tons.


Freighter capacity was down by 16 per cent, reducing overall cargo capacity by 3.2 per cent, and load factor was down one percentage point to 59.5 per cent.


In total, the freighter business lost EUR12 million in the first six months of 2016, an improvement of EUR25 million  on the year earlier period.
Overall, the group increased Q2 operating profit to EUR317 million from EUR183 million despite revenue falling as the result of a pilots’ strike.
