Beijing subsidies hitting Hong Kong traders

The Payload Asia conference in Hong Kong has been told that second-tier airports in China are being subsidised, leaving Hong Kong businesses struggling for a level playing field.
Swiss WorldCargo director and head of cargo for Asia Todd Mawhinney told delegates it was China's policy to build up new hubs at second-tier cities and offer incentives.

“My customers also complain that since the move from Kai Tak to the new airport, airport fees have gone up by 27 per cent,” he said.
