CV-580 freighter to Air Chathams

First of the former Air Freight NZ CV-580 freighters to sell – ZK-KFL - has been purchased by Air Chathams www.airchathams.co.nz

As outlined in our latest on-line magazine edition Air Freight’s CV-580 fleet has been up for sale subsequent to the formation of a new overnight freight operation in NZ utilising B737 freighters from Airwork.

The carrier’s leased CV-5800 has returned to its Canadian owners while the remainder of the CV-580 fleet is still available for purchase.

As outlined in our magazine story the freighters were first marked up at USD1 million but this subsequently dropped massively as true market value became evident.

Air Chathams’ new freighter is currently flying in an all-white livery but is expected to be painted in the carrier’s familiar colours shortly.

Air Chathams has long been one of the world’s biggest operators of CV-580 equipment rivalled only by Canada’s Kelowna Aerospace group www.kfaero.ca which owns the type certificate for the CV-240 family and has undertaken P2F conversions for many years as well as other modifications. KF Aerospace is also a major Canadian air cargo operator.

Air Chathams has a diverse fleet including a superbly maintained classic DC3 which is again operating summer RPT services on the airline’s Auckland/Whakatane route as well as scenic flights from Tauranga. It is also in heavy demand for charter.
