New annual summit planned for world tourism leaders

A NEW annual summit is to be held for the world’s travel and tourism leaders will focus on the big strategic issues' impacting the industry.

The first meeting is scheduled for next April.  The move follows the formation of a partnership between the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and two powerful organisations specialising in hospitality investment and aviation.

PATA president and chief executive officer Peter de Jong said the Burba Hotel Network (BHN) and the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) had agreed to partner to partner PATA at the summit.

“BHN and CAPA are the recognised leaders in their respective fields and have a reputation for excellence in convening conferences that draw a broad cross section of industry leaders and keynote speakers. They have an enviable track record of CEO attendance,” he said.

De Jong said the venue of the inaugural summit would be Bangkok, adding that PATA had received bids from five Asia-Pacific destinations to host the event.

He said PATA was still reviewing the theme of the first summit, but it would centre on a “crucial, strategic business issue that demands the immediate attention of travel and tourism decision-makers”.
