The World Customs Organization (WCO)-backed Customs to Customs pilot project branded Smart and Secure Trade Lanes (SSTL) is bedding down for airfreight as well as sea freight after the first shipment flew to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on an Air China Cargo flight from Shanghai.
That December shipment reportedly is leading to shorter Customs clearance times and has increased predictability (previously seen mainly in the maritime supply chain) through co-operation between Customs in countries including China, the Netherlands, Spain and Poland.

The Customs authorities of countries in SSTL recognise and make use of each other’s inspection findings and share risk information.
