Starlux joins global cargo fleet

Taiwan-based Starlux Airlines has signed to buy five A350 cargo jets from Airbus, with options for five more, plus it has ordered three additional A330neo widebody passenger planes.

Starlux said the cargo planes will be deployed on major intercontinental trade routes. The airline currently has an all-Airbus passenger fleet of varying sizes, including four Airbus A350-900 passenger jets.

The under-development A350F will have a maximum payload of 122 tons and a range of 4,700 nautical miles, according to Airbus.

The A350F will have the industry’s largest main deck cargo door, a lighter airframe and a claimed 20 per cent advantage in fuel burn and CO2 emissions compared to the legacy Boeing 777.

Airbus now has 55 orders for the A350F from nine airlines and leasing companies.
