Warren to chair new BIFA group

Sam Warren, sustainability manager at Woodland Group, has become the first chair of the British International Freight Association (BIFA) Sustainable Logistics Policy Group.

The trade association that represents UK freight forwarding and logistics companies established this policy group in 2023 to help identify and report on environment-related issues that impact members’ businesses, as well as those that may do so in the future.

Prior to working for Woodland Group, Warren was environmental and sustainability officer at Chelmsford City Council.

He will give consideration to two EU measures, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), which both impact the UK.

The former is indirect, as members are being requested to provide carbon emissions data for moving goods into the EU.

The well-established ETS (aka the EU ETS tax) is impacting shipping lines, which are incurring additional taxes for emissions generated for maritime movements into the EU from outside the bloc.
