FedEx moving to Teesside

FedEx has rewarded the UK's Teesside International with a five-year freight handling deal, after the airport opened a GBP2.5 million freight facility with a 21,000 sq ft hangar with security screening technology, handling, freight forwarding, Customs and storage.

The change means moving FedEx's eight inbound and outbound flights from Newcastle Airport from June and will provide nearly 90 tonnes of cargo capacity at the airport each week.

Alun Cornish, managing director of ramp and gateways operations for Northern Europe for FedEx said demand in the area was increasing and the move "will enable us to get goods to our customers faster”.

The airport recently was approved as a Border Control Point (BCP), meaning it can handle perishable produce such as flowers, fruit and vegetables.
