UK delays airports' airline compensation plan

The UK government has delayed previously announced plans to impose penalties on London Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick airports for poor performance.

The plans - which will take the form of rebates paid by airports to airlines - now will not be implemented before 2013.

The Department for Transport said: "Following the severe weather this winter, our first priority is to address the operational issues that have arisen."
