Scottish airports buying snow ploughs

After strong criticism about their handling of winter weather in December 2010, airports in Scotland are buying snow ploughs.

Edinburgh and Glasgow airports have bought a total of 15 new sweepers at a cost of GBP3 million.

In addition, Aberdeen Airport will spend GBP500,000 on snow clearing equipment while Highlands and Islands airports also will buy machinery.

Airport closures in the UK - and particularly in Scotland - cost airlines thousands of passengers during the recent winter.

It is claimed by commentators that some of the cancelled business and leisure business may not be recovered this year.
