Good start to 2011 for Lufthansa

Germany's Lufthansa group says its cargo arm in January turned in a 17.5 per cent increase to 137,000 tonnes carried.

Passenger numbers were up 11.7 per cent.

Including subsidiaries Swiss, Austrian Airlines and BMI, Lufthansa carried 6.6 million people for the month and Lufthansa alone recorded an annualised increase of 17.4 per cent to 4.4 million passengers "despite the extreme winter weather disrupting flight operations in the USA and unrest in the traffic region Middle East/Africa."
