Etihad says Qantas should fight

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad ceo James Hogan has advised Australia's Qantas it would be better to concentrate on its business instead of complaining about the threats posed by Middle Eastern and other airlines adding capacity to its market.

Qantas boss Alan Joyce last week said foreign airlines were flooding the market with extra capacity.

But Hogan disputed Joyce's claims that foreign airlines were "simply taking existing demand", saying Etihad had opened up new markets in Europe, India and the Middle East.

"We have opened up the market," he said. "They should fight and let the customer decide who wins. I can't sit here and complain about capacity and people moving into my market."
