American cuts Q4 loss

USA carrier American Airlines has reported a net loss of US$97 million for Q4 2010 inclusive of one-off charges and write-downs.

Excluding special items, the company lost US$69 million and the result included a US$35 million tax benefit.

The Q4 result compares to a loss of US$344 million for the fourth quarter of 2009, which itself included the positive net impact of US$71 million in non-cash special items and tax.

For all of 2010, AMR recorded a net loss of US$471 million compared to a loss of US$1.5 billion for 2009.
