Cargo record for Lufthansa

Germany’s Lufthansa Cargo has reported record revenue cargo tonne kilometres for 2010 with (FTKT) increasing to a record 8.9 billion FTKTs. The volume of cargo and mail transported climbed by 18.2 per cent to 1.79 million tonnes.

Freight and mail tonnage increased appreciably in all traffic regions, with most growth in the Americas, where tonnage soared by 24.9 per cent, followed by the Asia/Pacific with growth of 20.6 per cent.

During the year, Lufthansa Cargo had raised capacity by 7.6 per cent thanks to ‘reactivated’ freighters, new aircraft joining the fleet and the integration of the cargo capacities of Austrian Airlines.

Sales climbed by 19.9 per cent to 8.9 billion revenue cargo tonne-kilometres and were accompanied by a pronounced improvement in capacity utilisation. The cargo load factor rose on the year-earlier level by 7.3 percentage points to 70.9 per cent.

Karl Ulrich Garnadt, Lufthansa Cargo’s new chairman and chief executive said: “After the 2009 crisis year, Lufthansa Cargo has come back with outstanding results on the back of an impressive team performance. We are taking that momentum into 2011 in order to make the most of growth opportunities in the international air freight industry."
