Britain's Office of Fair Trading says it will probe Irish budget carrier Ryanair's stake in Irish rival Aer Lingus on the grounds of possible impeded competition.

Ryanair owns 29.8 per cent of Aer Lingus and will appeal the OFT's decision on the grounds it comes four years after the event.

Aer Lingus welcomed the OFT move and said it would co-operate fully with the watchdog.
