Branson calls for clean fuel initiatives

UK-based Virgin Atlantic founder Richard Branson and US media tycoon Ted Turner have told America it must lead the world in moving towards a clean-energy economy - or face economic peril.

Branson said the USA-led global economy could not afford oil prices rising up to a possible US$200 a barrel.

Speaking during the recent climate change summit in Cancun, Branson said: "We are going to have the mother of all recessions if we don't sort out our energy policy fast. We think we've got it bad today. In five years' time, unemployment could go to 15 per cent in America without any difficulty at all."
