DOT approves transpacific pacts

The US Department of Transportation has given final antitrust immunity approval to oneworld alliance members American Airlines and Japan Airlines and, separately, to Star Alliance members United Airlines, Continental Airlines and All Nippon Airways for both groups' transpacific joint ventures.

The DOT clearance enables the implementation of the US-Japan "open skies" accord.

The Japanese government has already approved both partnerships.
