UK, USA expand cargo checks

Britain has expanded security checks on air cargo, with trans-shipments on some flights from Asia and the Middle East screened before being dispatched elsewhere.

Flights from nearly 50 routes from Bangladesh, India, Iran, the Maldives, Pakistan, Qatar, Sudan and Thailand to British airports are affected.

Meanwhile, in the USA, some packages will undergo additional screening and larger toner and ink cartridges will be prohibited altogether from passenger flights. Homeland Security also will require certain packages being loaded onto freighters get "additional and enhanced screening" before a plane can take off if flying to the United States.
