ETS just another airline tax - Qatar Air

Qatar's Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker has challenged the ethics of the proposed European emissions trading scheme (ETS).

ETS will force airlines flying to, through or from the EU to pay for permits for each ton of carbon dioxide they emit into the atmosphere.

Challenging the scheme, Al Baker said the charges were nothing more than a tax.

"Governments should not be using airlines as a cash cow for their own inefficiencies. They should try to work with airlines for the benefit of trade and commerce," Al Baker said.
