Panalpina sees slowing growth

Swiss logistics group Panalpina says freight growth is slowing - and that its third-quarter gross profit growth was lower than expected.

Its 2010 nine-month volume growth was 27 per cent for airfreight and 16 per cent for ocean.

It said the market had begun to slow due to less restocking activity, a higher comparison base and a shorter-than-usual peak season in ocean freight.

"The peak season for air freight will only be moderate and in ocean freight, the peak season is already over with restocking having taken place early as businesses attempted to avoid shortages and also to avoid anticipated peak season rates," it said.
