French pilots abandon planned strike

French airline pilots have called off a strike due to start later this week.

Pilots had planned to walk out from November 5-8 in protest against a new law that forces airline workers to pay taxes on industry benefits such as discount plane tickets, car rental and hotel stays.

Cabin crew staff also had threatened to strike. It was not immediately clear whether they too had called off their plans.
