Cathay tips jv okay 'soon'

Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways says its long-awaited air cargo venture with Air China could gain regulatory approval as early as this year.

"We expect approval by the end of this year or early next year," Cathay ceo Tony Tyler said.

Cathay's freight traffic rose 25 per cent in the first nine months of this year compared with a year earlier, according to the International Air Transport Association.

Its revenue climbed 63 per cent in the six months to June 30.
