Edinburgh seeks Middle East connection

Scotland's Edinburgh Airport's managing director Kevin Brown says he hopes to copy the success of Emirates' daily flights to Dubai from Glasgow, which prompted the airline to increase the size of the aircraft on the route within two years of its launch in 2004.

He said the airport is hoping attract either Etihad Airways (hubbing at Abu Dhabi), Gulf Air (hubbing at Bahrain or Muscat) or Qatar Airways (Doha).

Edinburgh already has expanded its route network by 25 to 140 this year but has just one long-haul link, to New York.

By contrast, Glasgow boasts several trans-Atlantic routes, the Emirates service to Dubai and last week announced Scotland's first direct flight to India.
