BA 'shares the pain' with 32 - including Qantas

UK carrier British Airways reportedly has reacted to a class action claim - by customers allegedly affected by airline cartel activity - by 'spreading the pain' and involving another 32 carriers including Australia's Qantas in a British lawsuit.

A report in the UK's Times said BA believed the 24 should share potential damages as part of a freight price-fixing cartel.

"We've not yet received any formal notification of this action from British Airways and we will not be in a position to comment until something has been received," a Qantas spokesman said.

Qantas already faces its own legal problems through a class action in Australia and faced multi-million-dollar fines for its part in the freight cartel.

The illegal conduct relates to fuel surcharges imposed between 2000 and 2006.
