Delta delays 18 B787-8 deliveries

USA carrier Delta Air Lines says planemaker Boeing has agreed to defer delivery of 18 ordered Boeing 787-8 aircraft for about 10 years.

The deal keeps the aircraft on Delta's order books while it upgrades its existing wide-body fleet with business-class lie-flat seats, new economy class in-seat audio and video and other enhancements.

Under the original deal signed by (now Delta) Northwest, the carrier was to receive the aircraft between 2008 and 2010.

B787 production problems to date are said to have rendered those dates meaningless.
