BA seeks three strike-free years

UK carrier British Airways' cabin crew will get 90 per cent fare discounts again if they commit to not striking for three years.

That's reported to be the main offer on the table for crew to vote on after their union, Unite, struck a deal with the carrier.

Punishing those who walked out on strike this year by removing the perk has been the biggest sticking point in solving the dispute.

The strikes cost the airline an estimated GBP150 million.

BA's offer also requires the Unite union not to pursue legal action.

The union will now ballot thousands of members, with the result due in mid-November.

The hard-line British Airlines Stewards and Stewardesses Association (BASSA), the branch of Unite specifically for BA cabin crew, has said only that the proposals were sufficiently new to warrant a ballot.

BASSA secretary Duncan Holley said to members: "It is now up to you: If you vote against the offer, the dispute goes on; if you vote to accept, the dispute is over."
