Delta wades in to Middle East subsidies row

USA carrier Delta has stepped into the emerging row between European carriers and rivals from the Middle East.

Richard Anderson, Delta's chairman and ceo, said the European Union should support 'its own' airlines by providing antitrust immunity for services to Asia.

SkyTeam and the other two global alliances Star and Oneworld already have immunity to co-operate on transatlantic and transpacific services.

"The EU needs to get on with it," said Anderson.

European carriers have alleged carriers including Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways use 'unfair government subsidies' to take market share from established European carriers on long-haul international routes.

The Middle East carriers deny the subsidies claim.
