First Farnborough orders announced

Air Lease Corp, a new leasing company, has placed an order for 51 Airbus A320s valued at US$4.43 billion at list prices.

Air Lease is headed by Steven Udvar-Hazy, the former chief executive of the International Lease Finance Corp.

The order, announced at the Farnborough air show, is the first by the new company and is for 20 A321s and 31 A320s, which Air Lease says are particularly favoured by low-cost airlines.

Elsewhere at Farnborough, Dubai-based Emirates has ordered 30 Boeing long-range 777-300ER aircraft worth US$9.1 billion.

The order comes a month after the airline spent US$11.5 billion buying 32 A380s.

Emirates already is the world's largest operator of Boeing 777s, which seat between 300 and 400 passengers and have a range of about 8,000 miles.

Jim Albaugh, Boeing chief executive, said Boeing would be announcing further aircraft orders this week.
