Airports targeted in terror attacks?

A US official has said the list of potential terror targets in Europe should be widened to include public areas of major airports.

He said five hubs could be attacked by commando-like teams modelled on the Mumbai, India attack two years ago.

Forecourts, lobbies, check-in areas and other areas that can be accessed by non-travellers could be vulnerable.

Until now, it has been thought possible attacks would focus on city centres and commercial areas.

Brad Garrett, a former FBI agent said: "If they believe they can pull it off, I think there's every reason to believe they may go ahead and try it.

These plans go together at a particular point in time, and it may be perhaps that they are at a juncture with people, equipment and locations that they need to do it now."
