Napolitano oposes lifting liquids ban

US Homeland Security secretary Janet Napolitano says it's too early to lift a ban on liquids on board flights, despite international officials saying it could come as early as 2012.

Napolitano said she's surprised by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) secretary general Raymond Benjamin's remarks that new security equipment in most airports will allow the ban to be lifted soon.

Napolitano said the technology isn't ready.

Benjamin reportedly said the necessary security equipment would be in airports within two years.
