Mexicana could fly again

Previously-grounded Mexican carrier Mexicana de Aviacion (Mexicana) is planning to fly again by December with half of its workforce - 3,900 jobs - gone and routes reduced.

The fleet will be cut by 70 per cent to 30 planes on 23 routes, six of them domestic and 17 international, most of them to and from the US and Canada.

The plan involves a new collective bargaining agreement that will be overseen by the government (to ensure work conditions and job cuts comply with the law).

Mexicana stopped operating 'indefinitely' on August 28 - as did sister budget carriers Click and Link - due to serious financial troubles.
