Lawsuit hurdle for United-Continental

A US federal judge may rule to delay the merger of Continental Airlines and United Airlines while an antitrust lawsuit is pending.

The suit was filed in June on behalf of 49 air travellers who say the merger will lead to increased prices from decreased competition.

US District Court judge Richard Seeborg says he will rule on the issue before October 1, the day the carriers want to finalise their merger.

Shareholders of both companies approved the deal Friday; the US Department of Justice gave its approval last month.
