Shareholders okay United-Continental deal

Shareholders of US carriers United and Continental Airlines have approved their merger agreement.

Regulators in the United States and Europe have already okayed the merger.

The new airline will be called United and will be based in Chicago.

Continental Airlines' current ceo Jeff Smisek will run the newly combined company.

The shareholders of the parent company, UAL Corporation, will own 55 per cent of the new company, which will be called United Continental Holdings Inc.
