China Southern targets Australia

Chinese carrier China Southern Airlines' president Tan Wangeng says it is to focus on adding services to Australia.

The move is in reponse to the rapid growth of China's middle class.

''1.3 billion Chinese people have become rich, want to travel abroad and need to consume their money,'' Tan said.

''Why Australia? Australia is well endowed with tourism resources, the climate is different to China and the people of Australia and China are friendly without any conflict.''
