More airfreight, fewer UK passengers in August

UK airport operator BAA says its August traffic was down 0.6 per cent at 10.6 million passengers compared to 10.7 million last year.

Air freight, however, rose by 13.7 per cent year-on-year.

About 6.5 million passengers flew from Heathrow in August, 2.5 per cent up on the same month a year ago, although passenger numbers fell by 6.1 per
cent at nearby Stansted.

In Scotland, Glasgow saw a 9.4 per cent downturn, while Edinburgh's traffic fell by 0.2 per cent and Aberdeen recorded a decrease of 4 per cent.
