Scotland wants to reintroduce carrier incentives

The Scottish government is to re-examine the case for paying foreign international airlines to launch flights to and from the country.

Following intensive lobbying from Scotland's business groups, government agency Transport Scotland said it will participate in a European meeting this year aimed at removing legal barriers that prevent direct support to airlines.

The move could pave the way for reinstatement of the 'Route Development Fund', which was abolished in 2007 after it was found to conflict with European Union rules on state aid.
