Air Zim cancels flights, fires pilots

Air Zimbabwe has cancelled all international and many regional African flights as a result of a strike by pilots and cabin crew.

The Zimbabwean carrier also says striking pilots who defied a 24-hour return to work deadline after they walked out last week can consider themselves fired.

Pilots - and cabin crew - sought payment of allowances that were cut off in February.

Air Zimbabwe chairman Jonathan Kadzura said the pilots 'fired themselves' by embarking on an illegal protest.

Kadzura said other regional airlines and pilots will be asked to help get the carrier back in the air.
