Middle East backlash tipped

European reports say EC governments faced with requests from Middle East carriers for additional traffic rights are moving to a defensive position.

KLM ceo Peter Hartman reportedly has said he expects Emirates and others will face "more and more reluctance [from governments] to grant traffic rights."

British Airways ceo Willie Walsh stated the carriers' expansion represents a threat to long-haul European carriers.

"It’s definitely going to have an impact on the business," he said.
