Korean in 'green' moves

Korea's Korean Air has set up a corporate 'green team' to plan and implement fuel-saving initiatives.

It says it already has reduced greenhouse gases by more than 350,000 tons and its fuel efficiency rate is 17 per cent higher than the industry average of International Air Transport Association (IATA) member airlines.

In 2009, Korean Air operated 2674 flights between Hong Kong and Korea and a reduction of 100kg in cabin load weight on those flights saved approximately US$23,538 for the year, the airline said.

To promote public awareness, Korean now has appointed a pair of 'teddy bear crew' - one pilot-style teddy bear named Mr Greene and aflight
attendant-style teddy bear called Miss Love.

The teddy bears will appear at events to push the carrier's eco-friendliness.
