Delta sheds two regional airlines

USA-based Delta Air is to sell two of its three US regional units for a combined US$82.5 million.

Mesaba Aviation and Compass Airlines - both firms Delta inherited through its merger with Northwest Airlines - will go, but it is keeping Comair after receiving no offers for the business.

Regional airlines now account for more than half of all domestic flying in the US because majors have outsourced much of their business to smaller airlines to operate services on their behalf.
