Nigerian airlines okayed for own-plane US flights

Nigerian airlines can now fly their own planes to the United States.

Previously they were only allowed to wet lease planes from accredited countries' airlines.

Nigeria is now one of six African nations to have gained Category 1 status from the US Federal Aviation Administration.

"This achievement is an important milestone for Nigeria and US-Nigeria bilateral relations," US ambassador Robin Sanders said.
