Boeing inks new assembly plant contract

Planemaker Boeing is to open a new USA assembly plant that will create 75 new jobs by early 2011.

Dennis Muilenburg of Boeing's defence arm said hiring at the new plant could ramp up sharply if Boeing wins a new Defense Department contract.

As part of the deal with St Clair County, Boeing has a 10-year lease that gives it exclusive control of the airport's 50,000 square-foot warehouse.

Local commentators say this part of the deal may negatively impact the area's plans to develop as a major airport.
