ANA introduces carbon fibre containers

All Nippon Airways (ANA) has introduced lightweight, carbon fibre reinforced plastic cargo containers on its planes.

It is using carbon fibre reinforced plastic in the outer panels of cargo containers, reducing their weight to around 70 kilograms -- about 30 kilograms lighter than traditional containers.

Each container costs around JPY190,000, about JPY50,000 more than current costs, but ANA expects the new containers to provide fuel savings and help reduce carbon dioxide emissions from its planes.
